Work in series / Becoming an Island

Becoming an Island addresses the themes of an isolated United Kingdom in the form of manipulated pebbles collected from its shores. Each pebble is photographed and re-photographed in various stages of physical erasure. Reflecting upon current Brexit negotiations, the work can be viewed as a series of coexisting and united objects or the immediate decline of a singular entity. Contesting the classical interpretation of the paradisiac taking the form of an island, 'Becoming an Island' addresses the possible issues of defining a nation by its borders; being eroded by the sea.
